Introduction of Nepalgunj Office

At the time when the National Human Rights Commission was formed with the basic spirit of dignity, equality and justice, the state of the armed conflict in the country and the most affected area of ​​the conflict in the past, the state and the then rebel side freely enjoyed the basic human rights and fundamental rights of the citizens in different ways. Paragraph 4 of the then Human Rights Commission Act, 2053 in the context of the fact that it is difficult for the commission to be effective and to reach the general public in the background of increasing violations of human rights with the aim of developing a human rights culture through the protection, promotion and effective implementation of human rights. Realizing the need to establish a regional level office as per the provisions of 16, the first regional office of the Commission in this area was duly established in Nepalgunj on 7th November 2061.

 

After the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal on October 3, 2072 and the country went into a federal structure, the then Midwest Regional Office of the National Human Rights Commission has been transformed and functioning as the Lumbini Province Branch Office, Nepalgunj. After the establishment of the commission's office in this area, it has not only become easier to investigate cases of human rights violations, monitor the situation of human rights and expand awareness about human rights, but it has also helped to extend its reach to the local level. In this way, the Lumbini Province Branch Office of the Commission, which is authorized to carry out tasks other than policy formulation and decision-making, has acquired the status of carrying out necessary tasks for the protection and promotion of human rights within its jurisdiction. This Lumbini Province branch office is working to protect and promote human rights in the six districts of Lumbini Province: Rukum East, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Dang, Banke, Bardiya.
